Gabriel met his wife, Mary Sorice, a Raritan resident,
the day that he returned from the war in November of 1945.
As the story goes - Gabriel had a friend overseas Frank Sacino. When Gabriel received his orders to return home from Europe after the war, Frank asked Gabriel to relay a message to Frank's parents. When he arrived home Gabriel realized that he had forgotten where Frank lived, but he did know Frank's cousin on Thompson Street in Raritan. So he stopped by there to find out the location of Frank's home. When he stopped there he saw an attractive young woman Mary Sorice of 41 First St. Raritan. She was setting up for a welcome home party for another Raritan guy Dom Menci.

Mary Sorice was a rebel in her day as she seldom wore dresses. This day, as usual, she wore pants. When Gabriel first saw Mary the wise cracking young Gabriel remarked "I come all the way home and I can't even see a decent pair of legs." It was not the best opening line to meet someone, but it was a start. They would soon get to know each other better, go on a date, and marry just one year later. In 2010 they celebrated 64 years of marriage.

They have 2 sons, Louis, who lives in Florida, and Gabriel, who lives in Hillsborough. They have 5 grandchildren and expect a great-grandchild in August.
