In June of 1921 U.S. President Warren Harding visited Raritan. This visit took on historical significance as the treaty which formally ended World War I was signed right in Raritan. The war had ended in November of 1919, but the final treaty had yet to be agreed upon. When at last all countries had come to terms, a treaty was written up, and a courier was sent from Washington D.C. to get President Harding's signature. The President had been playing golf at The Raritan Valley Country Club with his friend U.S. Senator Joseph Frelinghuysen. Joe Frelinghuysen lived at an estate in Raritan where the Burger King is today. To the left is the photograph of the historic signing.
The above black and white photograph was taken on the steps of the Third Reform Church.
